Description

Tip-ups allow ice anglers to keep an eye on one or more ice fishing holes from afar. These strike indicators show when something is nibbling or biting at a bait so the angler can hustle over and, with luck, set the hook and haul up a prized catch through the ice.

The JawJacker Hook-Setting Ice Fishing Tip-Up from FISH307 is the latest innovation in tip-ups, also known as tilts, fish traps or ice traps. In fact, the JawJacker hooksetter looks something like a bear trap. Used properly, it can be just as deadly.

A Hot Tip on Tip-Ups

Too many times with conventional tip-ups fish grab the bait, spit the hook and swim away with a free lunch, leaving you to reel up your rig and rebait. This ice fishing automatic hook setter has been designed to give you better hooksets so you can crank up more fish rather than wondering about the ones that got away.

You rig up your ice fishing rod in this contraption so the rod is bent. When a fish strikes, the rod snaps up, hooking the biter. Then you simply remove the rod from the rod holder, move the JawJacker off the fishing hole and winch in your victim.

The JawJacker can handle all ice rods up to 30 inches and some as long as 36 inches, depending on the rod's flexibility. With this ingenious device, you can set the rod at different angles to accommodate fishing for big fish like walleye and trout or for smaller ones like kokanee, crappie and bluegill. You can also adjust the JawJacker's sensitivity with the simple twist of a wingnut so you can detect the lightest bite or prevent heavy baits from triggering the hook setter.

This rig is easy to set up and a cinch to use. Made of tough ABS plastic, it folds down to 3 1/4" x 2 1/2" x 16 1/2", so it is easily portable. Ten or more will fit in a 5-gallon bucket.

This product comes with two rod-tip loops, three jigs and instructions and tips for use. It is legal in all Canadian provinces and all U.S. states except Minnesota.

  • Bought one to give it a try and after going 10 for 10 without missing a fish I bought another one. Will be adding a few more next season. Easy to setup and compact enough to fit in one of my boxes.
