Fluorocarbon fishing line has a few distinct differences from monofilament lines.  The biggest factors are visibility and sensitivity.  Fluorocarbon line is much less visible to fish in the water.  It also has less stretch making the line more sensitive to feel the subtle hits from fish.  It's higher abrasion resistance will help if you are fishing around structure.  If you are looking for strength, you might want to also consider a braided fishing line.
