The Pro-Troll planer is constructed of heavy stainless steel. It is extremely stable in the water at all trolling speeds because of its two rear vertical fins and its kite type bridle which helps stability. It is designed for a maximum pull of 50 to 60 lbs on the downrigger cable or cord. This is well within the capacity of most downrigger booms and downrigger cable. High speed trolling for big game species like billfish, albacore, kingfish, wahoo and tuna is a very effective technique. Often the fish are not at the surface. If lures can be trolled 30 to 60 feet down, frequent hookups result. In addition, with species like tuna, the larger fish will always be below the smaller ones. The Pro-Troll planer allows trollers to target the most productive zone.

The following tables show the depths that can be achieved with the planer hooked on a downrigger. At trolling speeds over five miles per hour it is not possible to reach these depths with a conventional downrigger cannonball. The Pro-Troll planer becomes much more effective because depth is achieved by using the downward force of the water on the angled planer surface.
